The Perfect Nanny has been one of the big titles of the literary world in recent times. The book picked up a massive award in France and has been greeted with critical acclaim around the world. It is also, surprisingly, controversial with readers not quite as rapturous as the “intelligentsia” has been.

I think readers are being a little harsh. This is an uncomfortable book about the fear of a mother’s loss. It’s not supposed to be pleasant but rather to shine a spotlight on places we’d often rather not look. I really enjoyed it and was thinking about The Perfect Nanny for days after I’d put it down.
